Not Breathing / Circuit Bending

Dave Wright is an electronic musician from Tucson Arizona that circuit bends his own instruments out of home-made noisemakers, toys, and modular synths. Because of this, the online magazine Brainwashed called Wright "a true American electronic gem"...

Circuit bending "is the creative short-circuiting of electronic devices such as guitar effects, children's toys and synthesizers to create new musical instruments and sound generators." (Wikipedia)

An example of the kinds of things Wright modifies:

speaknight.mp3
Speak and Destroy - A bent Speak & Spell

A home-made synth/distortion pedal:
noizebox.mp3

And some examples of the kind of music he makes with them:

Not Breathing - The Anthem of Wor.mp3
Carrion Sound - The Eye Meets 606.mp3
Not Breathing - He Who Walks Beside You.mp3

You can find lots more sound examples and weird circuit bending projects from Wright at Carrion Sound site. And lots more music worth hearing at his Not Breathing site, his main sonic project.
